Soaking up the riverside charms of Phnom Penh, you travel overland through the stunning countryside and the small town of Kampong Cham to Mondulkiri. The mountainous areas are home of some ethnic groups and various stunning waterfalls dispersed in secluded jungle. You enjoy an elephant ride through the jungle and continue to Battambang. Following the river crossing is the interesting visit to the complex of Angkor Temples with Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Banteay Srei. |

ITINERARY FOR THIS TRIP |
Day 1: Arrival - Phnom Penh
Upon arrival at Phnom Penh airport, meets and transfers to hotel
Visit the National Museum, The Royal Palace, built by the French in 1866 on the site of the old town, and Silver Pagoda, which located within the Royal Palace ground. You will then end your tour with a visit to Wat Phnom Temple, Phnom Penh's namesake and have short tour to Killing Field were a number of sites in Cambodia where large numbers of people were killed and buried by the Khmer Rouge regime.
Boarding the boat for Mekong Sunset Cruise (1 hour)

Day 2 : Phnom Penh - Kampong Cham By Car 125 Kms (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Visit the notorious Tuol Sleng Museum which is an unforgettable to all Cambodians and stopover the bustling Russian Market in the morning. Drive to Kompong Cham on National Road No 6. (124 Km). Brief tour of Kompong Cham to view examples of colonial architecture. Visit Wat Nokhor with its ancient temple and modern style pagoda (12th C.). Check-in at hotel. O/N in Kampong Cham.
Day 3: Kampong Cham - Mondulkiri - Sen Monorom (B,L)
Breakfast at hotel. In the early morning, we start departing from Kompong Cham and crossing the Japanese built bridge towards Mondolkiri province. The route to Mondolkiri follows by the Sam Leng Logging road and gradually rise from Tonle Sap bassin into the hill country. Stop to visit of Chhup, a Rubber Plantation in the region established by the French tyre maker Michelin, on the way. Lunch at local restaurant in Snoul. Mondulkiri is an isolated forested province south of Ratanakiri, nestled against Cambodia's eastern border with Vietnam. O/N at Sen Monorom . (B)
Day 4 : Sen Monorom - Elephant Ride (B,L)
The mountainous areas around Sen Monorom Town are home of some ethnic groups and various stunning waterfalls dispersed in secluded jungle. The local weather is rather cool at certain high elevation. Heading north of town we travel by roads for 7 Km to Phulung Village and embark on an exciting elephant ride past a beautiful part of the jungle. This excursion is hard at times but still a funny experience and a good way to explore the countryside very different to anywhere else in Cambodia. The elephants trek for few hours before reaching a beautiful waterfall. This is an enjoyable stop to have lunch near the cascade and enjoy leisurely swimming in fall pool. By mid afternoon we meet up with our waiting vehicle and drive back to complete a super day. O/N at Sen Monorom.
Day 5 : Sen Monorom - Bu Sra - Sen Monorom By Car - 137 Kms (B,L)
The exploration of Bu Sra is a part of sightseeing in Mondulkiri. Today we drive for 37 km along two rivers towards Bu Sra. The road conditions are very poor; however the scenic mountain backdrop combined with lush vegetation makes for an interesting journey. En route we stop to see some sleepy villages of the Phnong people who have settled there long time ago and make for the main local population. These minority people are very friendly and welcoming. On arrival at Bu Sra we enjoy a walk through the verdant countryside dominated by the coffee plantation towards Bu Sra waterfall, one of the largest falls in Cambodia. The waterfall tumbles over multi tiered limestone formations into the cool and clear pools ideal for anyone seeking an enjoyable escape. O/N at Sen Mondukiri.
Day 6 : Sen Monorom - Prey Veng - Phnom Penh
Today we spend a full day driving back Phnom Penh. These back roads are a perfect way to explore the real Cambodia . We see very few other travellers, mostly rural dwellers who are just as interested in finding out about our lives as we are of theirs. Along the way we can make stop as you please, to stretch your legs and catch some wonderful shootings. We cross the Mekong River by ferry at near Prey Veang and continue our expedition to the capital city. The ideal way of spending your last evening in Phnom Penh is to relax in a café by the riverfront O/N in Phnom Penh. (B)
Day 7: Phnom Penh - Battambang By Car 290 Kms (B,L)
After breakfast at hotel, we are continuing to second largest city in Cambodia is Battambang which is located on both the highway and railroad linking Phnom Penh with Thailand. Apart from the scenic countryside, this lovely town has a vibrant market place and many Angkorian as well as post Angkorian sites, some of which are Wat Ek and Wat Toul Bassaet. Today we make our way for 5 hours through the scenic countryside to Battambang Town. On arrival, we enjoy Visit of secluded Bang Mealea , one of the most mysterious temples at Angkor. On the way back, visit the famous Banteay Srey Temple. O/N in Battambang.
Day 8: Battambang - Siem Reap - Angkor Temples (Battambang - Siem Reap - 170 Kms) (B,L)
Upon leaving Battambang Town we set off on scenic trip crossing Tonle Sap Lake to Siem Reap.
In the afternoon visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century). See The South Gate (with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk), Bayon Temple (unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara), the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, The Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.
In the afternoon, visit the most famous of all the temples on the Angkor plain: Angkor Wat. The temple complex cover 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing . Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Angkor Wat's Five Tower symbolize Meru's five peaks, the enclosed wall represents the mountains at the edge of the world and the surrounding moat symbolizes the ocean beyond. Sunset from Phnom Bakheng , one of two hills dominating the plain of Angkor, from where you will have a spectacular view of the Western Baray and Angkor Wat.

Day 9: Siem Reap - Angkor Temples (B,D)
In the morning, you will continue your temple visits. Included are Prasat Kravan (with its unique brick sculptures), Srah Srang ("The Royal Boths" was once used for ritual bathing), Banteay Kdei (surrounded by four concentric walls), Eastern Mebon (guarded at its corner by stone figures of harnessed elephants, some of which are still in a reasonable state of preservation) and the "Mountain Temple" of Pre Rup until sunset.
In the afternoon, transfer to the archaeological site and continue to the temple tour. Visit Ta Prohm, one of the most beautiful temples in the area. Ta Prohm has been left relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery. Then, visit Takeo , Thommanon and Chau Say Tevoda Temples. After tour, you will enjoy buffet dinner with Traditional Apsara Dance Show

Day 10: Siem Reap - Banteay Srei Temples - Tonle Sap Lake (B)
Breakfast at Hotel, visit Banteay Srei Temple (10th century), regarded as the jewel in the crown of classical khmer art. Then continue your visit to Banteay somre, built the third quarter of the 12th century .it consist of a central temple with four wings proceeded by a hall and accompanies by a two libraries, the southernmost of which is remarkably well preserved. Two concentric walls enclose the ensemble.
Afternoon visit the Floating Village of Chong Khneas, located 10 km south of Siem Reap. O/N in Siem Reap
Day 11: Siem Reap - Departure (B)
We enjoy the leisure time in the morning until the flight departure. |
